A perfect craft project for a rainy afternoon, learn how to create a colorful yarn jar by using a few household items and Elmer's Glue-All. The multi-purpose glue works on a variety of surfaces and dries clear.

Supplies Needed

Empty Glass Jar
Elmer's Glue-All®
Yarn
Ribbon
Scissors
Ruler
Small Bowl

Instructions

Measure and cut pieces of yarn in length to fit around a glass jar.

Dip each piece of yarn into a small bowl of glue. Wrap the piece of yarn around the jar. Continue wrapping the jar in yarn and glue until it is covered completely.

Let the glue dry completely.

Tie a ribbon around the mouth of the jar.

Fill your decorative jar with flowers or pencils!

Tips

  • Have students create their yarn jars as a gift for someone special. Students can fill their jar with dried flowers for a mother's day gift of rill it with pens and pencils for a great father's day gift. Encourage students to create greeting cards to accompany the gift. Have students write an acrostic poem should begin with the letters of the recipient's name. For Example: Helps his friends Enjoys sports Never rude Really funny Young.
  • Ask students to create gift bags to accompany their yarn jar gifts. Give each student a paper lunch bag and craft items to decorate it. Have students write the recipients' name on the bag.
  • Discuss recycling with your students. Talk about the importance of practicing the three Rs—reducing, reusing, and recycling. Explain to students that this project is a great example of reusing an item in a different way. Ask students to brainstorm ways that they can reuse other items more than once.
