School Specialty's Special Olympics Cycling Team Rides for the Gold
Matt Staras, art director, is actively involved with the DeKalb County Special Olympics Cycling team. With Matt's assistance, the team trained for and competed in the Bike Ride Across Georgia (BRAG), Spring Tune Up in Madison, GA, and participated in the Special Olympic Fall Games in Albany, GA. The four athletes who competed in the Fall Games brought home six gold medals and two silver medals.
One of the athletes, Bill, who competed in the BRAG, also competed in the Covington Century; his first 100-mile ride in one day. He is also registered to ride the Claxton Century.
Matt does not stop at coaching. He plays Santa at a Special Education School every December as part of their Winter Festival. Matt's enthusiasm for volunteering is magnified by School Specialty's Employer's Promise Hours Program, which allows Matt additional time to help out the community.
