School Specialty Associate Puts Extra Joy into "The Happy Club"
Once a month, Mark Dresser, a catalog director for School Specialty, donates a half a day to a group called, The Happy Club. It is coordinated through a local YMCA. Volunteers take a larger group of Happy Club members on social outings.
This half a day gives the kids a chance to do everyday things, such as dinner and a movie, bowling, a Halloween dance, a play, karaoke night, decorating pottery, a hay ride…whatever the volunteers think would be fun. It also gives their parents and caregivers a much needed break from the daily attention most of the kids need. Once a year, they go on a 4-day weekend to a Florida beach. This year, 65 Happy Club members and volunteers took busses and cars to Panama City Beach for an amazing vacation.
